Chennai Super Kings got their fifth defeat in the Indian Premier League 2022 on Sunday, 17 April. The men in yellow – despite being in control for most of the match, lost to the brilliance of the Gujarat stand of South Africa’s David Miller and captain Rashid Khan.

At the end of the eighth over, Gujarat chased down 170 runs by four wickets off David Miller. Rashid Khan’s 40 off 21 balls with a stroke-filled 94* helped GT secure the victory with three wickets and one ball to spare.

Speaking about the game in a post-match conversation, Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming said that there were two major reasons behind Chennai’s defeat on Sunday. They clearly gave one away early, stating that they were undone by a scintillating batting performance by the Gujarat pair.

“There were moments in the match that one can analyze, but David Miller’s brilliant innings and a very good cameo from Rashid at the end were the two contributing factors,” Fleming said.

He then explained that the CSK batsmen did not perform well in the last 5 overs of the game and scored just 44 runs against a good bowling effort from Rashid Khan’s team.

“The other aspect that was remarkable was the last five overs of our innings, he bowled well and we didn’t take advantage of what was a very good base. There were some crucial moments, but those were two areas – the last five overs with the bat and the last five. over when he batted.”

Titans pulled back the game after a partnership of 92 runs in the first innings Ruturaj Gaikwadi And Ambati Rayudu and pacer couldn’t have done better for the final over of 17 runs off Lockie Ferguson, who was hit for two sixes by CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja.

CSK enjoyed a good run of the game after Jadeja’s heroics in the final over as he took three wickets inside the powerplay to put a chokehold on Gujarat’s top order. However, his penchant for producing David Miller and Chase’s masterclass will undo CSK’s efforts as they are still at the bottom of the table with just two points from six matches.
