Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma expressed happiness after defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. It was MI’s second consecutive win after starting their campaign with eight losses. The 35-year-old admitted that the five-time IPL winning team did not get a suitable score but also praised the bowlers for encouraging them.

After being sent to bat first, MI posted 177/6 in the 40s from Ishan Kishan, captain Rohit and Tim David. In fact, it was David’s cameo of 44 off 21 balls that gave Mumbai’s score some respect. The match went down to the wire in the end as Titans needed nine runs to win in the final over between David Miller and Rahul Tewatia.

“It was quite tight towards the back end. Very satisfying, something we were looking for at the moment. Luck has to turn at some point or the other. We will take that win with both hands. Credits to all. We 15-20 runs short. The way we started, we got stuck in the middle. He bowled well in that position. Tim David ended things really well,” Sharma said after the match.

“We knew it would be tough, but we held our nerves and it was good to see. A lot depends on how the game is going, who is bowling well that day. Luckily, I had some resources so I could convert. He bowled slower and was difficult to hit. We wanted to do the same. We did that very well; it was a great effort from the bowling unit.”

sam was awesome

Rohit also praised Sams, who conceded only three runs in the final over. With Titans needing six off the last two balls, Sharma bowled two slow deliveries and shook Miller to such an extent that the batsman could not reach the ball with the bat.

“We didn’t want to look too far ahead. Even today, we haven’t played our best cricket, the credit goes to the back-end bowlers. It’s important to back up the skills you have. Sam was under the pump in a few games but I know what quality he has. It is important to support those guys. We are trying to maintain the same squad as much as possible. Daniel Sams was fantastic,” said Rohit.
