Guard missing from train found dead on track

A lady guard was found dead on Tuesday on the side of the railway track near Gudiyatham in Chennai division. Hours after receiving information about the missing of B Minimol, on duty in the 12510 Guwahati-Bengaluru Superfast Express, railway personnel found his body with a serious head injury.

According to Southern Railway sources, the tri-weekly train was forced to halt at Pachakuppam after Ms Minimol failed to exchange signals with the station masters at Valathur and Melpatti stations. Railway staff checked the guard’s cabin and found it missing.

An alert was sent at Gudiyatham station, where Ms Minimol was last seen exchanging signals. Keyman Gautam Kumar, who was on patrol duty, said that the body of the guard in uniform was found on the side of the track with a green flag. Para medical personnel who arrived in 108 ambulances confirmed his death. Sources said that the body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

The Southern Railway has constituted a committee to investigate the circumstances under which the cause of Minimol’s death happened. The guard coach was detached from the train to check whether the door lock, hook and hand railing were in working condition.
