Gujarat: Man gets death sentence for rape, murder of 10-year-old girl Surat News – Times of India

Surat : Special Judge Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act announced the death penalty Dinesh Baisane (24) In the case of rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Pandesara area on Thursday in December 2020.
Baisane was earlier convicted of the crime on December 10. NA Anjaria, Second Additional Sessions Judge.
While raping the minor on December 7, 2020, Baisane had beaten her to death with a brick on her head and scratched her body. A total of 47 injury marks were found on the minor’s body during the postmortem.
“Any crime against children is a priority for the police and we will investigate with impeccable quality. Police, medical officers and judicial officers worked as a team to deliver justice,” said city police commissioner Ajay Tomri Told TOI.
Earlier, the police had filed a 232-page chargesheet in the court within 15 days of the crime. The police cited 69 witnesses and evidence. DNA profiling of the victim and accused Baisane was presented among the evidence. Police handed over four footage of CCTV Camera in which the accused is seen with the minor.
Scientific evidence includes blood stains on the clothes of the convict, bite injuries and scratch marks on the body of the convict. An auto rickshaw driver and an employee of a vada-pav shop identified the accused as key witnesses.
On December 7, Baisane kidnapped the minor from his house by luring him to buy vada-pav and later raped him at a secluded place. The girl fought to protect herself by biting and scratching Baisane’s hand. She cried out for help when the convict, in fear of being caught, hit her on the head with a brick.
The deceased received training in ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ in a school provided by Police and NGOs. It is believed that due to training he tried to defend himself.
Both the parents of the deceased worked as laborers and they used to drop the minor to a nearby relative’s house during the day. Baisane was staying in the neighbor’s house from where he took her along to buy Vada Pav.
“The prosecution had requested the death penalty and it is an important decision. It is an important message to anti-social elements,” Nayan Sukhadwala, Advocate for the District Govt., Surat. The court examined 32 witnesses in just 10 days.
