Gujarat: Rs 89 crore fine on Dahej industrial units Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered 23 industrial units, Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) and even Gujarat The Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Dahej Industrial Area has alleged gross violation of environmental rules.
Overall, industries have been fined Rs 82 crore, while GIDC has been awarded a compensation of Rs 6.19 crore for environmental damage, and CETP, Dahej has been fined Rs 82 lakh, and the order was issued by a joint team. has come after. Central Pollution Control Board and Gujarat Pollution Control Board inspected industries which are discharging waste water into GIDC drainage system. A total of 99 industries including red, orange, large, medium and small scale industries are discharging waste water into the drainage system of GIDC Dahej.
The joint team visited 34 industries in the area, collected samples from various pumping stations and final disposal point of GIDC drainage network to check the final discharge quality.
Most of the industries were not complying with the industrial waste norms. The joint team also observed that despite having good infrastructure, the CETP dowry is not working and lets the waste water directly from the inlet chamber to the final discharge storage tank without any treatment! It was also observed that CETP is not meeting the Dahej discharge norms.
“The non-operational condition since the inception of CETP reflects non-utilisation of huge investment,” the NGT order said, adding that the installed plant, machinery and sensors would become inoperative as they are non-functional. .
Shockingly, the joint team observed that instead of dumping industrial waste into the ocean via a 4.5 km line, as suggested by the National Institute of Oceanography, the waste is sent through a separate pipeline near the shore. which is limited to only 600 meters. in Ocean. “Overall non-compliance with discharge standards at the final disposal point, heavy sludge accumulation, manhole overflow due to choking or leakage problems of GIDC drainage lines, frequent flow of waste water from manholes and pumping stations, contamination from industries runoff etc. leading to storm water drainage or surface drains,” it states.
