VADODARA: Syndicate members of MS University in Vadodara, Gujarat on Tuesday decided to sack Kundan Kumar Yadav, a student of Visual Arts (MVA) Part-I of Sculpture Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, for making “objectionable artworks”. A big controversy last week. The university will also issue show cause notices in this regard to the dean in-charge of the faculty, vice dean and three other teachers.
Show cause notices will be issued to six faculty members including Dean in-charge Dr Jayaram Poduval, Vice Dean Kashyap Parikh, Associate Professor Indrapramit Roy from Department of Painting, Dr Akeel Ahmed, Chairman of Evaluation Jury, Shanta Sarvaiya from Sculpture Department. The decision was taken by the syndicate members late on Tuesday night after a long discussion that lasted for more than two hours in the meeting of the Syndicate. Last Thursday, the faculty witnessed protests by right-wing organizations against artworks that contained newspaper clippings of articles about rape on women.
The cutting was done in the shape of various Hindu deities.
Following protests in the faculty, Poduval had denied that the artworks were part of the annual evaluation process. But a nine-member committee constituted by the university found that the artifacts were prepared by kundan yadav and was presented by him for the examination scheduled on 2nd May.
