Chavda, whose roots are in GujaratJamjodhpur also has a car showroom in Mozambique. In the CCTV footage, members of a local gang can be seen kidnapping the businessman.
While his Mozambique-based family and friends in Gujarat are concerned about his medical condition, Indian associations in Mozambique have made a representation before the Indian High Commission on the rise in kidnapping of Indian citizens of Indian origin and Indian origin.
“My friend is 58. He has diabetes and he has blood pressure. So far, the kidnappers have not made any ransom demands. But we are concerned about his medical condition which could worsen,” said his Anand-based friend. Said and business partner Bhavesh Sutaria.
“Fearing such kidnappings, many Gujaratis and Indians have migrated to Dubai and London at large. The Government of India (GoI) has friendly relations with the Republic of Mozambique. Pressuring the government there to intervene at the earliest. Needed.” Anand’s MP Mitesh Patel has also assured support from the Indian government, he said.
“We expect the Government of India to exert pressure on the Government of Mozambique to ensure the safety of all its citizens, including NRIs/OCIs,” said dozens of Hindu associations under the banner of the Indian Associations of Mozambique in their representations before the Indian High Commissioner.
When kidnapping began in 2011, it was thought that the victims belonged to a certain social status. But it has spread to all Indians, regardless of their financial status, the associations said in their representation. In the absence of any concrete action from the police, the exodus of families of Indian origin has started.
