Gurugram man duped his social media friend of Rs 3.6 lakh: Police

A resident of Sector 81, who had befriended him on a social networking website, allegedly duped him of over Rs 3 lakh, police said on Saturday.

Nikhil Kapoor said in his police complaint that he befriended a man who introduced himself as Sunny on Grindr. Later they started talking to each other through video calls.

The two met on Wednesday near Vatika Chowk where Sunny arrived with two companions. They were joined by two other youths whom Sunny introduced to Kapoor as their friends.

While they were talking, Sunny took Kapoor’s mobile phone and asked for his e-wallet pin. The victim said in her complaint that after Kapoor disclosed the PIN, Sunny allegedly transferred Rs 3.60 lakh from the account before eloping with his friends.

Based on Kapoor’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Sunny and his accomplices under sections 379 (theft), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at the Kherki Daula police station on Friday.

Investigating officer Charan Singh said, “We are probing the matter and trying to nab the accused.”
