GVMC to organize series of programs to engage citizens for G-20 meeting in Visakhapatnam

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is coming up with a series of programs to engage citizens in the G-20 Working Group Committee meeting.

The corporation has launched a talent hunt program “Vedika-Vizag Got Talent” for local youth at RK Beach last week. As part of the program, aspirants can showcase their talent in dance, singing, mimicry and music, which is organized every Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm to 7 pm, no registration/ There is no admission fee and the corporation has provided a WhatsApp number to the youth for enrolment.

“In the first three days, we have received around 600 registrations. Youth from different parts of the city enthusiastically displayed their talents. There were some youngsters who performed on stage for the first time. Many youths have some or the other talent but there is no platform to showcase it. Our aim is to identify and bring out the talent among the youth through the programme,” said a senior GVMC official.

He also said that the reason for choosing RK Beach as the venue is that many people visiting the beach will have leisure time to attend the event. Besides, more and more people can see the talent of the local youth.

GVMC officials have decided to continue the program every Saturday and Sunday.

The corporation has also decided to organize essay writing, painting and elocution competitions in educational institutions ahead of the global event.

5k run

During the last week of this month, the corporation in collaboration with the district administration will also organize a 5 kilometer run or walkathon/cycling in the coastal area. The authorities are planning to involve NGOs, residents’ welfare associations and managements of various public sector undertakings in organizing the programmes.
