Hacking in March affected Russian company’s websites, says cyber firm

Russian government entities and state-owned companies have been targeted over incidents in Ukraine, with the websites of the Kremlin, major carrier Aeroflot and major lender Sberbank among those that have seen outages or temporary access issues.

Rostelecom-Solar, the cyber security arm of the telecommunications company Rostelecomsaid on Friday it noted increased activity on hacker forums from February 22-23, with a large-scale attack on Internet resources of state officials beginning February 25.

“The main target of the attackers are government resources,” Rostelecom-Solar said in a statement. DDoS Attacks on one government portal in the last three days alone.

Businesses have also become a target, especially the banking sector, which has also been heavily sanctioned by the Western powers.

“Rostelecom-Solar experts note a significant increase in DDoS attacks in the commercial segment: from March 1 to 10, more than 1,100 such attacks were recorded here, which have already exceeded the figures for the whole of February,” Rostelecom-Solar said said.

More than 450 attacks were registered against banks, which is four times the figure for February.
