Halloween 2021 is upon us, and this year, we’ve got no tricks up our sleeves, just treats. So what is Halloween? It is a time of celebration and superstition, a time to honor all the saints and martyrs, making it a wonderful holiday. Initially known as Hallows’ Eve, Halloween falls on the night of October 31, which is the eve of All Saints’ Day (November 1). It is believed to have originated in the Celtic fringe of Britain, and was adapted by Christian traditions, conventions of immigrants, and an insatiable desire for sweets. During the Celtic pagan festival of Samhain, that is, the end of summer, people would light bonfires and wear their scariest clothes to ward off wandering ghosts and spirits. It originated in Ireland, Scotland and Wales during the 16th century where people went from door to door asking for food in exchange for poetry or song. Today in many countries around the world, as the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, people still start the winter season with parties, costumes, sweet treats and much enthusiasm. Children, especially in the United States, look forward to this holiday all year long, in anticipation of trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving and all being decorated as witches, zombies and what not. But we have a confession to make, Halloween parties aren’t just for kiddos! Adults also dig the haunting decorations, clever costumes, and gruesome inspired munches. That’s why we’ve created spooky and divine Halloween desserts to make this year’s celebration a truly memorable one.
