Hamal: Nepal minister resigns two days after inducting PM Sher Bahadur Deuba’s cabinet – Times of India

Kathmandu: Gajendra Bahadur, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supply of Nepal haml resigned on Sunday after controversy over his appointment, 48 hours after he formally joined cabinet.
Hamal submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deb According to cabinet sources, who accepted it.
Hamal, the district level leader of the Nepali Congress, drew considerable criticism after media reports suggested that he had been appointed a minister on the recommendation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, who happens to be his brother-in-law.
As a result, the rise of Hamal caused unrest within the Nepali Congress, with many members calling it a move that undermined democratic values.
Hamal is also not a member of the lower or upper house of parliament. However, there is a provision in the constitution that anyone can become a cabinet member for a period of six months, even if he is not an MLA.
According to sources, Hamal had resigned after facing constant pressure over his appointment.
“At present, news spread in various media outlets and lawyers has misrepresented my appointment, and such news has denounced my years of commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers between the organs of the state. The struggle is devalued.
Hamal wrote in his resignation letter, “However, since the question of my appointment has been raised, I have resigned as a minister in the midst of such speculation that it is not appropriate for me to continue as a minister.”
Hamal was one of the 18 ministers appointed by the prime minister. Deuba On Friday, nearly three months after taking office on July 13.
Deuba became the Prime Minister after a Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Rana reinstated the House of Representatives, which had previously been dissolved by then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
