Young fast bowler Shivam Mavi has heaped praise on Hardik Pandya and said that the flamboyant all-rounder backs every player as captain. Mavi got his maiden India He has been selected for the T20I series against Sri Lanka as a call-up this week. Hardik has been named captain of the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma who is yet to recover from his thumb injury.
Mavi is keen to give Hardik an audition as he looks to impress his new IPL franchise captain Gujarat Titans after being picked by the defending champions for Rs 6 crore in the IPL auction.
The 24-year-old is confident that he will not disappoint Hardik.
“Hardik Pandya supports every player. He is a great leader. It is very difficult to become IPL champion in the first match but he was able to do so. He led Gujarat Titans from the front and became champions. He is a calm leader, but has also taken some bold decisions.”

The young pacer feels that Hardik is a tactical genius who usually takes brave calls to take instinctive calls on the field and he is hoping to get a chance in the XI for the Sri Lanka series.
“As a captain, Hardik bhai is very shrewd and a masterful strategist. He knows when and whom to promote in the batting order. I know it won’t be easy for me but I am just looking forward to getting one game, performing there and becoming a regular for India.”

Despite a poor performance in the last IPL, Mavi was confident of bagging a decent price in this year’s IPL mini-auction and also got the team of his choice.
“Yes, I was expecting around Rs 5 and 6 crore. This is the result of my consistent performance. I always wanted to stay in GT as I heard their management is very good. GT has Hardik bhai and (Ashish) Nehra bhai, two of the best thinkers in the game.”
