A day later, the Uttarakhand Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) in relation to a religious events in haridwar While there were calls for violence against Muslims, state Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar said that the hate video has been taken down from Facebook.

He said Waseem Rizvi alias Jitendra Narayan Tyagi has been named as an accused as it was based on a complaint filed by a local resident, which only mentioned “Wasim Rizvi and others”. The program was organized from 17 to 19 December.

The police registered a case under IPC section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), which carries a maximum punishment of five years.

Mr Kumar denied that the case was registered under minor sections. They told Hindu That the sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) were not invoked as the Act did not lead to any murder.

“We have invoked both sections (i) and (ii) of section 153A IPC in the FIR. We have to go by law, UAPA cannot be implemented as there was no violence or murder from this incident. More details will emerge from the investigation.”

‘No weapons found’

When asked about the children showing sword and trident at the event, he said, “They are traditional things. They neither found any weapon nor found any weapon factory…. All this is part of the investigation.”

At the event, Yeti Narasimhananda called upon the Hindu youth to become “Prabhakaran” and “Bhindranwale” and exhorted the Hindus to take up arms against the Muslims.

Mr Kumar said he would call Narasimhanand and others in the video for questioning as per law. No arrest has been made so far.

There are many FIRs registered against Narasimhanand in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Earlier this year, an FIR was lodged by the police over his comments about Prophet Muhammad at a press conference in Delhi.

Mr Kumar said that the state police has also registered a case against Rizvi for objectionable material in a book on Prophet Mohammad. Former President of Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Dr. Rizvi recently converted to Hinduism in a ceremony Narasimhanand supported.
