Harish Kalyan on his character in ‘Oh Manapen’, the Tamil remake of Telugu hit ‘Pelli Chopulu’ and his musical dreams

“He would have immediately responded with words of encouragement,” says Harish Kalyan in a telephonic interview. Because it was back in 2016 when he saw the Telugu original and discussed it with an assistant director friend named Kartik. “I remember we were talking about the film, and he mentioned that I would be a good fit if it is made in Tamil.” But the matter ended there.
Cut to 2019, and Harish was approached for its remake, and suggested Kartik’s name for the director. One thing followed another, and slowly, oh manapen fell on the spot.
“Remaking a film is about striking the right balance in the script. We had to face many difficulties in doing this. Dharala Prabhu, because the concept (of sperm donation) may be difficult to accept for the Tamil audience. Harish made his debut in the Tamil film industry in 2010, and has since become known for his romantic-at-heart characters. But he insisted that his outings on the TV reality show Big Boss 2017 changed its perspective on what people expect from her.
“It brought in a lot of self-understanding. Indoors the only thing we could do was communicate with people, so it taught me a lot about how to manage my emotions. It taught me a lot to be grateful and to do little things.” Also taught to appreciate, something that is still in good shape,” he says.
When he is not on the sets or listening to scripts, Harish is busy with songs. His initial ambition was to enter the music industry.
