Harsh Goenka shared a funny tweet on increasing literacy rate

Business tycoon Harsh Goenka took to Twitter to share a hilarious tweet on Kerala being the most literate state in India and how the state can further increase its literacy rate.

With 96.2 per cent literacy, Kerala has emerged as the most literate state in the country, while Andhra Pradesh is at the bottom with a rate of 66.4 per cent, according to a report based on the National Statistical Office (NSO) survey.

The report on ‘Household Social Consumption: Education in India – July 2017 to June 2018 as part of the 75th round of the National Sample Survey’ provides state-wise details of literacy rates among persons aged seven years and above.

According to the study, after Kerala, Delhi has the best literacy rate of 88.7 per cent, followed by Uttarakhand at 87.6 per cent, Himachal Pradesh at 86.6 per cent and Assam at 85.9 per cent.

On the other hand, Rajasthan ranks second with 69.7 per cent literacy rate, followed by Bihar at 70.9 per cent, Telangana at 72.8 per cent, Uttar Pradesh at 73 per cent and Madhya Pradesh at 73.7 per cent.

The overall literacy rate in the country has been estimated at around 77.7 percent in the study. Literacy rate in rural areas is 73.5 percent as compared to 87.7 percent in urban areas of the country.

Male literacy rate at all India level is higher by 84.7 per cent as compared to 70.3 per cent for females.

The survey revealed that the male literacy rate is higher than the female literacy rate in all the states. The male literacy rate in Kerala is 97.4 percent, while it is 95.2 percent for women.

Similarly, the male literacy rate in Delhi is higher at 93.7 per cent as compared to 82.4 per cent among females.

There was a significant difference in male and female literacy rates even among the worst performing states.

In Andhra Pradesh, the male literacy rate is 73.4 percent, which is higher than the 59.5 percent among females (aged seven years or above).

The gap was even greater in Rajasthan as the male literacy rate was 80.8 per cent compared to 57.6 per cent for females.
