Stokes had announced his retirement from ODI cricket on Monday, after which Kohli called the all-rounder “the most competitive bloc” against whom he played.
Stokes told Sky Sports, “Look, Virat is going to go down as one of the greatest players to have played the game in all three formats. He’s a fantastic player. And whenever I’ve played against someone like him, he’s got to play the game. I’ve liked it a lot.” ,
“The energy and commitment he gives is something that I have always admired even before I start playing against him. When you play against such people, you understand that it means not just to yourself but to you. To everyone who was lucky enough to play at the top level.
Stokes said, “I am sure we will have some more fights on the field. Good to hear what he (Kohli) said.”
Kohli, who has over 70 international hundreds, hasn’t scored a century since November 2019. He also struggled in the recently concluded tour of England.
He has been rested from the West Indies series starting July 22.
