Mangaluru: Fifty years after graduation, an alumnus of St. Aloysius College along with his friend donated Rs 1 crore as an expression of gratitude towards his alma mater.
MV Nair, President of TransUnion CIBIL, a 1971 batch college alumnus, and Venkat ESWho currently heads Asia Treasury Products, Global Transaction Services, a part of Global Banking and Markets (GBAM) at Bank of America, founded the MV. nair And Venkat Endowment fund at St. Aloysius College for the education of children of police personnel.
MV Nair has set up the trust in the memory of his father, MKR Nair, who worked as a head constable in Mangaluru and retired in 1980. Venkat ES had served in Corporation Bank in Mangaluru. Nair met Venkat while working at Corporation Bank and their friendship continued even after Venkat left Corporation Bank.
At a formal launch function for the endowment fund held on Friday, Nair said, “When I raised the issue of setting up a trust to meet the educational needs of police personnel, especially the children of constables and head constables, Venkat had promised me. , that he would pay three times more than what I would donate for setting up the trust. I donated Rs 25 lakh while my friend Venkat paid Rs 75 lakh.
“My heart is close to the police personnel, as my father retired as a head constable in Mangaluru, and I spent my school and college days at the police lane in Mangaluru. Aloysius College education helped me to excel in life. Children of needy police personnel can use the amount to continue their higher education. If required, we will donate additional funds,” he said.
