Health: France suspends 3,000 illiterate health workers – Times of India

Paris: Thousands health worker across France has been suspended without pay for failing to vaccinate against COVID-19 Before this week’s deadline, Health Minister Olivier Veran said on Thursday.
“There were about 3,000 suspensions reported yesterday to staff at health centers and clinics who have not yet been vaccinated,” Veran told RTL radio.
He said that “several dozens” had turned in their resignations instead of signing up for Jobs.
Comparing this with the 2.7 million health workers overall, Veran said, “continuous healthcare has been assured”.
President Emmanuel Macron in July gave an ultimatum to hospitals, retirement home workers and fire service workers to shoot at least one bullet or face an unpaid suspension by September 15.
In particular, many nurses have been reluctant to administer the vaccine, citing safety or efficacy concerns, threatening that France’s vaccination campaign could stall.
France’s national public health agency estimated last week that about 12 percent of hospital staff and about six percent of doctors in private practice had not yet been vaccinated.
Overall, 70 percent of French have received both doses required for full vaccination, which are available to all people over the age of 12 – one of the highest rates in the world.
But 74 percent took only one dose, indicating that despite widespread availability, many people are against jabs.
