Heatwave Alert! There is a possibility of severe heat in Delhi till Saturday. Read what IMD says

Delhi is in the grip of severe heat, which is likely to intensify further in a week. The IMD said the maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius today and 43 degrees Celsius by Saturday. Parts of the national capital have been in the grip of heat wave since March last week and their maximum temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no relief is visible for at least a week.

,heat wave The spell is likely to continue over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, South Haryana-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next 5 days.

Why this unusual heat?

IMD The prolonged drought has led to “severe” hot weather conditions in northwest India, officials said. The Met department attributed the unusual heat to the absence of an active Western Disturbance over North India and lack of rainfall due to any major system in South India.

  • There is a possibility of heavy rain over Assam-Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on 06 and also over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim from 05-08 April 2022.
  • Strong weather over southwest Bay of Bengal (wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph); Along the southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka coast on 09 April 2022. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
  • Strong weather (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely) over South Andaman and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on 05th & 06th; (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) over central parts of South Bay of Bengal on 07th;
