In the midst of summer, the Haryana government has changed the timings of government and private schools from May 4. Now the schools will start from 7 in the morning and will end by noon. This comes after a section of primary teachers of government schools demanded a change in timing. A group of teachers had written to the Haryana Chief Minister and Education Minister urging them to reduce the time spent in schools by two hours and change the timings.

Like other states of North India, Haryana is also going through a heat wave. Gurugram, at 45.9 degrees Celsius, was the hottest place in Haryana. The weather report of the Meteorological Department said that Hisar and Bhiwani also witnessed hot weather conditions, with both the cities recording maximum temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius and 44.8 degrees Celsius. Among other places in Haryana, Narnaul recorded a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak recorded a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius. Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 42.4 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Karnal was recorded at 42.7 degree Celsius.

After recording the hottest summers, many states have changed their school timings. Many people have also announced early summer break. The neighboring state of Punjab has not only changed the school timings but has also declared summer vacation in all schools from May 14 in view of the scorching heat in the state.

The central government has also issued an advisory after recording climate change. The central government has asked people to limit their exposure to the sun, especially during the afternoon till 3 pm. This is usually the time when school children take a break and are returning home. In such a situation, schools are improving to save the children from the scorching heat.

This comes a year after schools finally reopened after two years of online classes due to the pandemic. The new sessions started in March-April. These were the first on-campus sessions in 2020 since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in mid-March.
