Heavy rain forecast in the capital

In view of the possibility of heavy rains in the next few days, the district administration is taking precautionary measures to deal with the emergency.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in the district on Wednesday and Thursday and a yellow alert on Friday.

District Collector Navjot Khosa called an emergency meeting, designated deputy collectors and sub-collectors as officers-in-charge for coordinating disaster mitigation activities in each taluk.

The officers have been entrusted with the responsibility of convening the meeting of the concerned local body leaders, tehsildars, village officers, fire officials and control room officials. He has also been ordered to visit the taluk control room and camps.

Availability of facilities, food, clothes and toilets should be ensured in relief camps. Steps should be taken to open additional camps if needed.

The Collector urged the officers in-charge of Neyyattinkara, Nedumangad and Kattakada taluks to be more careful.

In-charge officers were instructed to ensure availability of boats and KSRTC buses to rescue the stranded people in the event of floods. Adequate number of soil excavators and drivers should also be maintained.

Revenue officers have been instructed to remain in the district headquarters till October 25. The officers on leave have been instructed to come on duty immediately.

Taluk in-charge officers, Tehsildars and officers representing various departments participated in the meeting.
