Heavy rain in some parts of Bengaluru, relief work underway: Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said relief work was underway and he was personally monitoring it, amid heavy rains wreaking havoc in parts of the city last night.

He said, “Due to heavy rains at many places yesterday, water has entered the houses, some roads have been damaged. We have understood the magnitude. The commissioner (BBMP) has already given instructions to the zonal officers and the relief work is done. continues.” .

Speaking to reporters, Mr Bommai said that he is personally monitoring the relief work and is in constant touch with the BBMP commissioner in this regard.

“Draining water to help vehicular movement in waterlogged areas, providing relief to those who are hit by rain with water entering their homes, will be their priority. The work should be started immediately and necessary Instructions have been given to release the funds. For this it is necessary,” he said.

Heavy rains on Sunday night downed trees and flooded homes, while several roads were flooded in parts of the city.

Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said that he has received information about damage to vehicles, falling of trees in some areas, loss of livestock and collapse of some old houses.

“All these things are being looked into and a decision will be taken at the earliest without any delay,” he said.

According to official sources, Rajarajeshwarinagar is said to be the most affected area.

Local MLA and minister M Muniratna said such mass destruction had never happened in the area and his main goal was to find a permanent solution so that such incidents do not recur.

An incomplete retaining wall in the area along the storm water drain of Vrishabhavati valley causing water to enter low-lying areas and loss of livestock, he said, adding that he would immediately speak to the chief minister and take all necessary measures.
