Heavy rush at Sabarimala temple as it reopens for Makaravilakku

The Sabarimala temple will be closed on January 19 after the Makaravilakku festival.

Sabarimala Ayyappa temple reopened on Friday for the Makaravilakku festival.

A representative of Sabarimala temple’s Devaswom Board said on Friday, “There was a huge crowd at Sabarimala today because of the festival.”

According to temple sources, the temple was opened last evening and devotees have been allowed change from today.

Earlier on 26 December 2021, the Sabarimala temple was closed after Mandala Puja.

It will close on January 19 after the Makaravilakku festival.

The traditional Erumeli to Sabarimala forest route via Karimala has been reopened for pilgrims from this morning. Pilgrims are being allowed to go in batches through the forest route in which they have to pass through the Periyar Tiger Reserve for about 18 km.
