Here’s Queen Elizabeth’s Favorite Sandwich Recipe for Afternoon Tea

Eating a big breakfast, a satisfying lunch, and a light dinner – three meals a day is ideal for most people. Sometimes, though, hunger pangs often strike between hours after our main meal—we have to scramble to make a quick snack together. This is where the English tradition of drinking afternoon tea comes in handy. Usually consumed between 3 pm and 5 pm, afternoon tea usually consists of a drink, some light sandwiches and refreshments to satisfy untimely hunger pangs. Queen Elizabeth had enjoyed a simple 2-ingredient sandwich for afternoon tea since childhood. This was revealed by Chef Darren McGrady in a video on his YouTube channel. to keep track:

Darren McGrady is the former royal chef of Buckingham Palace and has worked there for nearly 15 years. He regularly shares some of his favorite recipes from the royal kitchen for his customers and fan base. In this video, Chef McGrady reveals what would normally be served for afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace Sandwich, a cocktail drink, scones with cream and strawberries. “Even if you can’t enjoy the pristine lawn at Buckingham Palace, these recipes will make your afternoon tea a royal event,” the chef wrote in the description of the video shared last year.

Speaking of sandwiches, the former royal chef revealed that one of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite sandwich recipes was a simple preparation that required only three ingredients. Known as ‘Jam Peonies’, this was one of the most loved recipes that Rani loved as a little girl. Chef Darren McGrady reveals, “The Queen was served jam pennies in the nursery as a little girl. She’s had them for afternoon tea.”

How simple and delicious isn’t it? Sometimes the easiest recipes are the ones that are remembered the most. This isn’t the only sandwich that was made for a royal afternoon tea. Chef McGrady reveals another sandwich that was made with cream cheese with a hint of fresh mint, and then a layer of thin peel Cucumber, In the video the chef said, “Beautiful, delicate and delicious! The definition of afternoon tea. Remove the crust and cut it into small two-bite sandwiches.” Another version of this sandwich is the cheese and tomato sandwich, which is made with a little butter, grated cheese and tomatoes with the seeds and skin removed.
