A dog recently saved its 53-year-old owner by leading a rescue team after falling 70 feet while climbing in the United States. Nevada County Search and Rescue reported on Facebook that the incident took place on July 12 in Nevada County, California.
Officials said Saul, a black border collie, and his owner were hiking near Tahoe National Forest when the owner fell 70 feet. The sharp fall left the man, whose name has not been disclosed, broken his hip and rib. About 25 search and rescue members were dispatched to help locate the man.
The Facebook post’s caption said that Saul, “in true ‘lassie’ fashion, ran 200 miles and found two members of the search team. The dog was able to lead the team to its owner, who lay on covered ground.” A camouflage tarpaulin.
talking to CNN Associate KCRA“At first we didn’t believe it because it looked like a movie,” said Sergeant Dennis Hack of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue. “When they came back and actually described it to us, the reality was they went straight to the dog hunt,” he said.

In addition, officials reported that first responders helped escort the man to an air ambulance to take him safely to the hospital. “Great work and skill by everyone involved today,” the Facebook post read. It also states that Saul was taken back home and given “a well-deserved” dinner.
