Hertz says it can increase Tesla’s supply to 150,000 units to Uber

Hertz said earlier this week that it would order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by the end of 2022, half of which would be offered exclusively as a rental option for Uber drivers by 2023.

Hertz added the lack of a chip and other constraints could affect the plan.

Rental car company Hertz said Thursday that if the partnership is successful, it could expand plans to supply Tesla vehicles to Uber from an initial fleet of 50,000 to 150,000 over the course of the next three years. But Hertz added the lack of a chip and other constraints could affect the plan.

“Hertz will close the program by providing 50,000 vehicles exclusively to Uber drivers by 2023. If successful, the program could expand to 150,000 Teslas during the next three years,” Hertz said in a statement to Reuters.

“These ambitions may be influenced by factors beyond its control, such as semiconductor chip shortages or other constraints,” Hertz said.
