HI Elections: Dilip Tirkey to face UP Hockey’s Rakesh Katyal, Jharkhand’s Bhola Nath Singh for president’s post

the former India In the race for the post of Hockey India President, Captain Dilip Tirkey will take on Uttar Pradesh Hockey chief Rakesh Katyal and Hockey Jharkhand’s Bhola Nath Singh in the national federation elections to be held on October 1.

But there is a twist in the story as Uttar Pradesh Hockey General Secretary RP Singh requests Katyal to withdraw his nomination and support Tirkey instead.

“We are glad to know that a former player like Dilip Tirkey has filed his nomination for the post of President. I request Shri Rakesh to withdraw his nomination. I am sure that Rakesh will think about the growth and development of hockey and withdraw his nomination,” wrote Singh in his letter to Katyal.

“We are confident that Dileep will take the right steps towards the development of hockey and we wish him all the best.”

Katyal, however, said whether to contest the elections or not, a decision has not been taken yet.

“I have filed my nomination papers for the post of President. Yes, I got the request to withdraw my nomination but I have not made up my mind yet. At the moment I am in the race but if things go well between all the parties, then I can also back down.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 23 September.

Player-turned-politician and administrator, 44-year-old Tirkey is the country’s most capped player with 412 international caps.

Former national level wrestler, Hockey Jharkhand President Bhola Nath has also thrown his hat for the posts of president as well as general secretary.

Besides Bhola Nath, Delhi Hockey President Hitesh Sindwani and Hockey Maharashtra Vice President Manoj Bhore will also contest for the post of General Secretary.

Bhola Nath also confirmed that he has filed his nomination for both the posts.

“I have my nominations for both President and Secretary General. I have no intention of withdrawing right now,” he said.
