High Court asks collectors to ensure quality road repair work

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the district collectors of Thrissur and Ernakulam to inspect the road repair works being carried out on the Angamaly-Manuthi national highway or get them inspected by a competent authority to ensure that the work is done properly. was.

Justice Devan Ramachandran directed him to file a report before the court. The court gave this direction after reports that the Angamale-Manuthi section was being repaired in a shoddy manner. It was told that no officer or engineer was present to ensure that the filling of potholes was done properly.

The court on Monday directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take immediate steps to repair every damaged or potholed road under its control through its concessionaires or contractors within a week.

The court had also observed that the District Collectors had a definite role as the head of the District Disaster Management Authority. District collectors cannot be mere spectators. The Disaster Management Act empowered the collectors to take action to avoid disasters.
