Highly venomous Mozambican spitting cobra found in South African family’s prayer room

A snake The rescuer describes a tense encounter with a cobra after being called to a home in Reservoir Hills, South Africa. Taking to Facebook, Nick Evans, a reptile educator and conservationist, revealed that he had encountered an angry Mozambican spitting cobra – a highly venomous snake native to Africa – on Friday. Mr Evans said he was called in to rescue a snake that was found in a hole in the wall of a family prayer room.

In a social media post, Nick Evans said that when he reached home, the reptile proved elusive. “When I arrived, I stuck my phone in the hole in the wall, on video mode, hoping to see the snake,” he said. The snake catcher said, “I heard something. When cobras get irritated, they make a distinct, short whisper… However, I couldn’t see it on camera.”

Mr Evans said he was struggling to locate the snake, after which he resorted to tearing out a part of the room as he saw a gap he suspected the snake had traveled through. “I felt really bad,” he said. But he added that the landlord was adamant to get the snake out.

In the caption, Mr Evans wrote that he found the snake exactly where he had hoped to eliminate it with the help of the owner of the house. The reptile was not happy, but Mr. Evans explained that he went ahead anyway and pulled the snake out with the help of tongs. “It spat furiously at my tongs, then me,” he said.

Eventually, Mr. Evans reveals that he managed to take down the venomous snake. “The family was happy to see this snake’s back, and I don’t blame them!” He finished the post.

citing website Reptile Range, newsweek reported that the Mozambican spitting cobra grows to several feet in length and is probably brown or olive-brown in color. The snake is named for its ability to spit venom. They are known to bite humans and are responsible for most severe snakebite cases in southern Africa. Media outlets reported that the venom of the Mozambican spitting cobra can cause pain, swelling, blisters and even severe tissue damage.
