Vadodara/Palanpur: Clashes in the area of Sabarkantha Himmatnagar and during the pillar city of bliss Ram Navami Procession on Sunday.
Stone pelting started in Khambhat when the procession was passing through Sakarpur area. During the procession, riots broke out over a dispute over playing DJ in loud voice.
After a heated argument between members of two communities, miscreants present in a group near a cremation ground started pelting stones at the procession.
One person and six policemen suffered minor injuries while the police had to fire a couple of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
The rioters also set ablaze five vehicles selling vegetables. “The situation is under control. One person with minor injuries has been shifted to Anand for treatment,” said Anand district superintendent of police (DSP). Ajit Rajian Told TOI.
After stone pelting and vandalism, tension and unrest spread in the entire area and the police started the search operation.
In Himmatnagar, clashes broke out in Chhapariya area after stone pelting on the procession. Police had to fire seven tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
