Hindustan Copper ties up with IIT (Indian School of Mines) for technical support

new Delhi [India]Jan 4 (ANI): A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Hindustan Copper Limited and Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.

The Union Mines Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the agreement would cater to the needs of HCL for technical assistance, guidance and consultancy work.

The MoU was signed in Kolkata in the presence of Arun Kumar Shukla, CMD, HCL and Professor Rajeev Shekhar, Director, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

HCL, which is in its expansion phase, will be benefitted by this initiative.

“The first technical collaboration with IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, is a significant opportunity for HCL, the only copper miner in India to have all operational mining leases for copper ore in the country. Presently, most of the ore production is through underground mode only and the level of ore production is being around 4 million tonnes per annum,” the statement said.

Due to the complex geological features of the ore body and the increasing depth of mining, various geotechnical and technical/operational problems during the process of production along with maintaining safety standards and dealing with emerging sustainability issues are required. We are facing ground water related issues.

IIT-ISM, Dhanbad, being an institute of national repute, envisaged to achieve, especially in mining minerals and its beneficiation and earth sciences, in solving emerging geological, technological, environmental and, sustainable and ore beneficiation issues will play an important role.
