Hiring activity up 26 per cent in November, highest in IT-software, telecom sector: Survey

According to a survey by Naukri Jobspeak, the hiring activities witnessed a 26 per cent year-on-year (YOY) growth in November 2021. The IT-Software and Telecom sector witnessed a huge increase in the recruitment activities. The online recruitment company said this is due to the unlocking of the lockdown and an increase in retail enthusiasm, festive promotions and the opening of educational institutions.

The start of the festive season marked the return of the retail sector – registering a growth of 47 per cent year-on-year in November 21. Another sector that benefited during the festive season was hospitality/travel (+58 per cent). To return to normalcy, schools are set to reopen across the country; The survey claimed that the education sector (+54 per cent) experienced a consequent increase in recruitment.

Hiring activity in November 2021 also increased in several other sectors, including over 30 per cent in banking/financial services and +50 per cent in IT-software sector, higher than in November 2020. The Telecom/ISP sector saw 91 per cent. Percentage growth, the index recorded a muted growth of around 3 per cent in medical/healthcare and around 6 per cent in FMCG sectors.

The continuous growth of IT-Software and BFSI sectors has enabled metro cities to outperform their Tier-II counterparts in the annual growth charts. The survey claimed that metro cities registered an average YOY growth of 39 per cent, while non-metro cities grew at a slower rate of 16 per cent.

Among the cities, Hyderabad also saw a growth of over 47 per cent, Pune also 47 per cent and Bengaluru also 49 per cent, which registered the highest growth in November 2021. Mumbai too grew at 36 per cent, Delhi/NCR at 34 per cent and Chennai at 35 per cent, while Kolkata grew at 23 per cent.

Among non-metropolitan cities, Ahmedabad saw the maximum growth of 61 per cent in November 2021, followed by Coimbatore at 28 per cent. Hiring was positive across all experience bands in November 2021 as compared to last year.
