A few fresh faces were picked as Hockey India on Tuesday announced a 33-member men’s senior core group to prepare for the major international tournament this year, starting with the FIH Hockey Pro League next month.
The 33 probables were selected from 60 players who were called for a three-week camp at the Sports Authority of India center here.
The initial 60 players were selected on the basis of their performance in various domestic tournaments of Hockey India.
The core group consists of senior players like Tokyo Olympics bronze winner PR Sreejesh, captain Manpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Surendra Kumar, Mandeep Singh and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay as well as youngsters like Mandeep Mor, penalty corner specialist Jugraj Singh, striker Abhishek and Sukhjit Singh. are players. ,
Sanjay and Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, who were part of the Men’s Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar last December, have also been placed in the core group. Apart from the 33 probables, Simranjit Singh and Gurinder Singh will be staying at SAI, Bengaluru for rehabilitation.
Speaking about the new core group for 2022, head coach Graham Reid said, “We have used the last three weeks to look at the next layer of players in the country. Today we have picked 33 that will help us to refresh and rejuvenate.” Allows some new faces to be brought into the team.
