Honda Cars India commences production of the new Honda City e:HEV Hybrid.

Honda Cars India has commenced production of the new City e:HEV hybrid sedan. The company has launched the first unit of Honda City e:HEV Hybrid from its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan and is all set to launch the car in India next month. The new Honda City E:HEV broke cover only last week and the Japanese carmaker is already accepting pre-bookings for this upcoming hybrid sedan. While the standard Honda City is being offered in India in three trim levels – V, VX and ZX, the City e: HEV will be available only in the range-topping ZX variant.

Unlike the previously sold Accord Hybrid, which came to India as a completely built unit or CBU model, the City e:HEV is being manufactured in India.

2022 Honda City E: The HEV gets a new self-charging and highly efficient two electric motor e-CVT hybrid system, which is paired with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine. It is also equipped with an intelligent power unit (IPU) with advanced lithium-ion battery and an engine linked direct coupling clutch. E: The HEV electric-hybrid system gets three driving modes – EV drive, hybrid drive and engine drive as well as regeneration mode during deceleration. The car automatically switches between the three modes depending on the throttle input. The combined power output here is 124 bhp while the system makes 253 Nm of peak torque, of which 127 Nm is generated by the petrol engine. Of course, hybrid technology has made the City E: HEV more fuel efficient and the overall fuel economy improved by almost 40 per cent at a claimed 26.5 kmpl. And that too despite the weight gain of about 110 kg.

The new City E: HEV will come with Honda’s advanced intelligent safety technology – Honda Sensing for the first time in India. Honda Sensing safety system features include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Auto High-beam.
