Hooghly stone pelting: Movement of trains suspended for three hours on Howrah-Bandel section

Earlier on Monday evening, a fresh incident of stone pelting was reported in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, due to which the Railways had to suspend all local and mail express train services to and from Rishra railway station. According to Kaushik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Easter Railway, there has been an incident of stone pelting at Rishra railway station.

“For the safety of the general public, all local and mail express train services have been suspended on the Howrah-Bardhaman main line,” Mitra said. untoward incident or violence.

The incident comes a day after clashes broke out during the Shobha Yatra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Hooghly on Sunday, April 2, 2023. The state government later issued prohibitory orders and also suspended internet services across the district.

Earlier on Thursday, several vehicles were set on fire in a clash between two groups in Howrah amid Ram Navami celebrations. Following the violence during Ram Navami celebrations in Howrah, the West Bengal government on Friday handed over the probe to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A special team headed by Inspector General of Police, CID Sunil Chowdhary has taken up the investigation.
