How Microsoft’s plan could give it an ‘edge’ over Google – Times of India

Microsoft improving your edge browser and tempts users to switch from Chrome to it by calling it the best browser for it windows, Still, the switch to Edge didn’t happen as the company might aim for and Google Chrome is still the market leader. Now, Microsoft has another trick up its sleeve to get more users to embrace Edge. The tech giant is actually going to add a free VPN to its Edge browser, which could make more users switch to Edge. The feature is detailed on the company’s support page.
The tech giant calls this feature ‘microsoft edge Secure Network’, which is currently in the preview stage. Purpose of “secure network”? Encrypting your internet connection to protect you from hackers, protect you from online tracking and keep your location private is what is expected of a VPN service. Microsoft has partnered with Cloudflare for the VPN service.
You’ll get 1GB of free data every month when you sign in to Microsoft Edge with their Microsoft accounts.
How to turn on and use Microsoft Secure Network
To use it and get familiar with the feature, you need to sign in to Edge with your Microsoft account, go to ‘Settings and more’ and click on ‘Secure network’. Then, the VPN will be activated and your browser frame will get a solid gradient icon. This feature will be turned off automatically when you close the Edge browser and you will need to turn the feature on again if you want to use it next time.
Right now, the feature is in preview. It is likely that Edge insiders will get to use the feature first. Final construction is expected to begin in a few weeks.
Bear in mind that this is a completely free VPN and by giving it to Edge, Microsoft has certainly made the game of browser supremacy as interesting as its rivals, Google and Mozilla, allow VPN services in their browsers but they are paid ones.
