How tall is the tallest man ever? Guinness World Records shared the picture

It’s always fascinating to see people, things and events that give a very different perspective of the world; Tallest, highest, tallest, largest, most all these superlative words excite our curiosity. In a similar trend, a Twitter page called History in Color shared a picture of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man ever from 1935.

American man recognized as “The Giant of Illinois” was the tallest man the world has ever seen Guinness World Records, Its website states that Wadlow has held the record since 1955. When last measured on June 27, 1940, he was 8 feet, 11.1 inches (2.72 m) tall. Wadlow was an incredibly tall 1.63 m (5 ft 4 in) at the age of five and required clothing for teenagers. At age eight, he surpassed his 5’11” father’s height.

Guinness World Records retweeted one post with the caption, “Amazing photo of the tallest man ever.”

The picture shared on Twitter left netizens in awe.

According to the Guinness World Records website, Mr Wadlow had a condition which resulted in hyperplasia of his pituitary gland. As a result human growth hormone levels were abnormally high.

As Robert grew older and taller, he developed several medical conditions that were exacerbated by his extraordinary height. Yet he made every effort as a young boy to participate in the same activities as his peers.

Wadlow died at the age of 22. He died in a hotel in Manistee, Michigan on July 15, 1940, as a result of a poorly fitted brace that had caused a septic blister on his right ankle only a week earlier.
