First of all soak the chana dal and cook it for 2-3 whistles. Once done, heat oil/ghee in a pan, add ginger, green chillies, oil, cumin, curry leaves and let them splutter. Then add chopped tomatoes and onions to it. After this add salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder.
