How to make Palak Sambar – This South Indian dish balances health and taste.

We just love when restaurants offer extra sambar at no extra charge – right? There’s just something so delightful about this South India staple that we can’t get enough of. Sambar is mild, tangy, spicy and can be paired with anything and everything you can imagine. We sometimes enjoy bowls of sambar with rice, dosa, idli, uttapam, upma and even paratha. You just need to make a big bowl of sambar and store it whenever you feel like it. Traditionally, sambar is prepared by boiling tur dal and cooking it with sambar masala, tamarind and some vegetables and herbs. However, today we see many variations of this classic recipe. wonder why? This is because the popularity of sambar has broken barriers and today it is prepared in almost every household across the country. And hence, people customize the recipe as per their taste, preference and availability of ingredients.

It is called Palak Sambar. This palak sambar recipe also includes jackfruit, but you can add or omit it as per your preference and availability. Let’s take a look at the recipe.

How to make South Indian Style Palak Sambar:

To make this recipe, first you have to boil the tur dal and jackfruit with little water. You can also pressure cook it for two whistles.

Meanwhile, dry roast the grated coconut along with the sambar powder. Put it in the grinder and make a thick paste. Add water if needed. Keep aside.

Now fry the bhindi and tomatoes and keep aside. Add drumstick, spinach stems and small onions to the cooker and cook on medium heat.

When everything starts boiling, add coconut paste and cook for some time. Add the roasted bhindi and tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, till you get the flavor and texture you want. Add salt as per taste.

Once done, add tamarind water to add that pungent flavor to the dish. add tempering at the end

A cup of mustard seeds, curry leaves and turnips and your healthy and delicious spinach sambar is ready to eat.
