Nowadays it is difficult to find open and airy space in most of the big cities. The courtyards have almost disappeared and so are the balconies. These are the only urban places with some open areas full of sun and wind. Instead of filling it with a washing machine and random clothes, here are some ideas for making it functional, beautiful, and enjoyable to sit in.

The first thing you can do yourself (DIY) is add recycled plastic bottles and boxes as hanging flower pots. Suspended flower pots: Either hanging or affixed to a railing save lots of space. Decorate these plants with high quality fairy lights. At night, these lights will give a dreamy effect to the balcony.

In the space saved from heavy flower pots, low seating arrangements can be made. First put a rug or even a honeycomb. Wooden stands with low seating are also readily available. These will instantly enhance the look of the balcony.

Place some quilts and plenty of cushions on these wide wooden stands to make it comfortable to sit. To keep more items like trays, books or laptops, have a wooden box or at least a foldable reading table. Make sure all dirty pipes, wires or cords are anchored to the wall with hooks or permanent fixtures for a neat and tidy appearance.

Depending on how much space you have on the wall, you can hang a mirror. The more interesting the mirror, the more character it will add to your space. The background in front of the seating area can be painted in a bright color to give a positive vibe to the whole place. If you want more privacy, you can add blinders of your choice. You can also go for plants like climbers to cover maximum area to act as a natural curtain.
