People all over the country are celebrating Navratri festival with full religious fervor. In Hyderabad, Hindu devotees installed a 45-feet tall idol of Goddess Durga to please the deity. As reported by news agency ANI, the giant idol is made of eco-friendly material and has been kept in a pandal in the Esamiya Bazar area of the city. Gulab Srinivas Gangaputra, the organizer of the pandal where the idol is installed, said that it took 22 workers and 35 days to make the idol. “The idol is made of grass, clay, red sand and water colours. 22 artists worked for 35 days to make this idol,” Gangaputra told ANI.

The idol of Goddess Durga has nine faces and nine pairs of hands, which represent the nine forms of the deity. During Navratri, devotees worship nine forms of Goddess Durga, with Vijayadashami or Dussehra marking the deity’s victory over the demon Mahishasura.
The eco-friendly sculpture will ensure that there is no harmful effect on the environment as the market is still flooded with artefacts made from chemicals and toxins.

Devotees in many parts of the country build themed pandals during Navratri to worship various forms of Goddess Durga. There are nine forms of Durga: Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.
The Navratri festival will end with Vijayadashami on October 15. Vijayadashami is celebrated in some parts of the country to mark the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura – a deceitful king who pursued his evil ways.
Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, marks the defeat of the 10-headed Ravana at the hands of Lord Rama. People in North India burn massive effigies of Ravana along with his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad to celebrate this day.
