Hyundai launches Alcazar SUV with 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine

Hyundai has launched the Alcazar SUV with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Its prices range between ₹16.74 lakh for the entry-level 7-seater Prestige manual variant, and go up to ₹20.25 lakh for the top-spec Alcazar Signature (O) six-seat automatic.

Bookings for the Alcazar 1.5 Turbo opened a few weeks back, with deliveries expected to begin later this month. The new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine replaces the older 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol that churns out 159hp and 192Nm, up on power by 1hp and 61Nm. The same new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine will also be seen in the all-new Verna that will be seen in the Creta SUV on March 21 and even in Kia’s line-up, which also includes the Seltos and the Cairns.

Hyundai says that the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is RDE compliant and also ready for E20 (ethanol) fuel. Gearbox options include a six-speed manual and a new 7-speed DCT which replaces the six-speed torque converter automatic available with the 2.0 petrol.

The Alcazar 1.5 Turbo is offered in four variants, starting with the entry-level Prestige, which comes with a seven-seater layout, priced at ₹16.74 lakh. Then there’s the Alcazar Platinum, also in a seven-seat configuration, priced at ₹18.65 lakh, both variants only get a six-speed manual gearbox. The higher-spec Platinum (O) and Signature (O) come with only a six-seat layout and standard 7-speed DCT gearbox priced at ₹19.96 lakh and ₹20.25 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi) ,

Talking about the look, it gets a new looking grille and new puddle lamps in the higher variants.

The Alcazar diesel, which comes with a 1.5-litre engine good for 115hp and 250Nm, remains unchanged. It will get six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic options. The three-row SUV from Hyundai sits below the Tucson in its Indian line-up and rivals the Hector Plus, Innova Highcross, Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700.
