Hyundai Motor India remains the best selling SUV brand in India for the second year in a row. The company sold over 2.52 lakh SUVs in 2021, where the new-generation Creta not only remains the best-selling SUV in the carmaker’s line-up, but also sold over 1.25 lakh units last year across India. Hyundai Venue continues to be the second best-selling SUV in the company’s model range with sales of over 1.08 lakh units in 2021. Maruti Suzuki continues to be the largest selling UV manufacturer including both SUVs and MPVs.

But there is a catch, if we include both SUV and MPV then Maruti Suzuki still claims the best selling UV brand in the country. The company sold 2,90,661 units in the period January 2021 to December 2021, which includes sales of both the Ertiga and XL6 along with the Vitara Brezza and S-Cross. So while the Indian carmaker ranks second in terms of SUV sales, it still remains a bestseller if we consider the entire utility vehicle segment. Carandbike got in touch with Tata Motors, Mahindra and Kia Motors to investigate the third largest SUV maker in India and we are still waiting to hear back from them.

Some new SUVs have been launched in the last year.

Still, a price sensitive market like ours is an impressive one considering the growth in demand for SUVs and the disruptions caused by the second wave of COVID last year. The industry’s ability to deliver and maintain supply chains even as semiconductors grapple with ongoing shortages is a positive sign. Moreover, the UV segment has been the most sought after and hotly contested segment over the years and exciting launches like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Punch, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushak last year have kept the interest well.

The waist is tightening. , We are also looking forward to the debut of Mahindra Scorpio this year and Kia Motors will launch the Karens MPV in India this year.
