The IONIQ 6 previews a sleek and streamlined four-door coupe with a teaser incorporating the parametric pixel design elements seen on the IONIQ 5.
Hyundai has released several teasers for its upcoming all-new IONIQ 6 in the past few days ahead of its upcoming showcase. The teaser reveals that the exteriors of the vehicle start from the front and go all the way to the rear. Previewed by Hyundai Percept Concept, the IONIQ 6 was previously teased in a short video hinting at its aerodynamic shape – similar to the concept. The latest teasers reveal some new design details such as parametric pixel design elements incorporated into the car’s various light clusters and an overall design that is very different from Hyundai’s current range of internal combustion vehicles.
Among the parametric pixel design elements are the headlamps and taillights
Starting from the front, the images show a low set nose with prominent bulges on the wheel arches and sleek headlamps with Parametric Pixel LED Daytime Running Lamps. Meanwhile the sides reveal a very clean design with the IONIQ 6 lacking the creases and cuts that have defined Hyundai’s latest internal combustion model. The car gets camera-based wing mirrors (expected only in certain markets), raised wheel arches and a rear pillar with a sharp rake flowing into the boot. The shoulder line follows the length of the car window, before pointing down the low set rear. It is also revealed that there is a parametric pixel design rear light cluster in which the unit is likely to be a third stop lamp instead of the main tail lamp cluster. Meanwhile, the rear bumper gets black cladding on the lower edge along with parametric pixel design lighting elements at the corners.
Hyundai has called the IONIQ an ‘electrified streamliner’ given its low slung and aerodynamic design.
The IONIQ 6 is Hyundai’s second model based on the firm’s purpose-built e-GMP platform which was first seen on the IONIQ 5. Like the latter, the IONIQ 6 is also expected to be available globally with a choice of single and dual electric motors. The powertrain with the design is expected to help the model reduce its drag co-efficiency.
