Although Ryan Reynolds may seem like one of the most confident people in Hollywood, the public persona is very different from the anxious person he’s in, the actor says.

Reynolds told CBS Sunday Mornings that the 45-year-old actor has been battling extreme anxiety since childhood, according to People magazine.

“I’ve had really anxiety my whole life. And you know, I feel like I have two parts of my personality, which takes one when that happens,” he said.

Reynolds revealed that the outgoing Reynolds that people see on screen is often a last-second shift from his true self.

“When I would go out, like, Letterman, back in the day, I was terrified. But I remember standing backstage before the curtains opened, and I would think to myself, ‘I’m going to die.’ I’m really going to die here. The curtain’s about to open and I’m just gonna be, I’m just going to be a symphony of vomit, ‘Just like, something terrible is about to happen! he said.

Reynolds continued, “But as soon as that curtain opens, and it happens a lot in my work, it’s like this little guy takes over. And he’s like, ‘I get it. You cool. Ho.’ I feel, like, my heart rate goes down, and my breathing calms down, and I just go out and I’m this different person. And I leave that interview saying, ‘God, I got that guy. Would love to be!’ ,

Reynolds first spoke openly about her concern in May and has said that her family has inspired her to make it public.

“Part of it is that I have three daughters at home and part of my job as a parent is to model the behavior and model what it’s like to be sad and model what it’s like. gets worried or angry. There’s a place for all these things,” he said according to People magazine.
