I-League: Churchill Brothers look to pull back from first round defeat

Churchill Brothers will look to bounce back from their first-round loss against Punjab FC in an I-League match in Naihati (West Bengal) on Friday.

Churchill lost their opening match 0-1 to Gokulam Kerala before the I-League bio-bubble was disrupted for two months due to multiple COVID-19 cases and Goa team Punjab against his chances.

Churchill’s assistant coach Mathias Costa wants to forget the first match and focus on the current game.

“Of course, we played a good first match. However, we didn’t get our result due to lack of finishing. So we want to create more chances and score goals.”

“The boys are desperate to leave after the restart. It’s always important to get something out of the game. We want to forget the last match and focus on the next one to get all the three points.”

On the strength of his opponents, Costa said, ‘They have many experienced players and they have signed very well. Of course, it will be a tough match. If we can convert our chances, we can get all three points.”

Punjab coach Ashley Westwood is also upbeat about his team’s prospects.

“We went for a four-week break and assembled as soon as we could. Before coming here, we had a 2-week preparation period and luckily, all the players are fit to play. We have an important match against Churchill Brothers. who is one of the contenders to win the title,” Westwood said.

In other matches on Friday, Sudeva Delhi FC will take on Indian Arrows while Real Kashmir FC will play against Kenkre FC in Kalyani.
