“If India had a strong leadership in 1962…”: Arunachal Governor on China

Governor said that every soldier should be prepared for any eventuality on the borders

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd) today called upon the Army personnel to be prepared for any eventuality along the borders, saying India would not have faced “upside down” against China in 1962 if the country had one. There would have been a stronger leadership, a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan here said.

Addressing a ‘Sainik Sammelan’ at the operational base of the 14th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in Changlang district, the Governor said the country should never reduce its security.

“Had India had a strong leadership in 1962, we would not have had any backlash against China. Now, the equations of the region have changed. India is one of the most powerful armed forces in the world. However, we must not let our guard down. Every soldier should prepare himself for any eventuality on our borders,” the governor said.

Shri Mishra also said that the Center is always concerned for the welfare of the Army personnel under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“There has been a drastic change in the attitude of the government towards the security forces. Now the top political leadership is highly concerned about the well being of the security personnel,” he said.

He called upon the personnel to maintain discipline, train themselves hard and share a friendly relationship with the citizens.

“If the uniformed men are determined, they will be successful in all their endeavors,” he said.

The Governor, who had participated in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 with the regiment as a Company Commander, appreciated the efficiency of the battalion and its soldiers.

As a token of appreciation, Mr Mishra also contributed to the regiment’s “Bada Khana” on the occasion, the statement said.
