If you like high quality music then Spotify has ‘bad news’ for you

Remember Spotify HiFi, the high-quality music streaming feature that was announced almost a year ago? Well, we still don’t know when the option will be available to Spotify users. And worryingly, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek isn’t even sure when that will happen. Daniel shared this update with investors and analysts this week, explaining that the feature has been caught up in the licensing process with the music label.

The new development will certainly come as a disappointment to Spotify users hoping to try high-quality music streaming sometime this year. Especially since both Apple and Amazon have released their own versions of high-quality music content on Apple Music and Amazon Prime Music respectively.

As you may recall, Spotify HiFi was confirmed by the platform long before Apple and Amazon planned to release their own offerings. And there was a lot of excitement among users about the technology coming to the leading music streaming app. But it seems that the numerous delays and lack of proper communication have eroded all the hype about HiFi so far.

It’s also interesting that both Apple and Amazon managed to offer their own version of HiFi music streaming at no extra cost. Whereas Spotify said to charge extra for its HiFi streaming quality offering.

Licensing has been talked about several times by the Spotify CEO during his talk this week, and it might just put a spanner in the works on the platform. Now, it remains to be seen how another company decides to bring its facility whenever that happens.

And going by the latest news, we’re not sure if it’s going to be in the works any time soon. Because, people can finally think of switching platforms only to get high-quality music streaming, which is already available with rivals.
