IGNOU launches Masters program in Migration and Diaspora

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched Master of Arts in Migration and Diaspora (MAMIDI) Studies in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. It is the first of its kind to be offered in the country in ODL mode from January 2023 cycle. Students can check the detailed program prospectus and eligibility criteria on the official website of IGNOU at ignou.ac.in.

The program aims to help candidates work in the areas of migration governance, diaspora engagement, labor flow and human trafficking, IGNOU said. Students registering for this course will be provided with hard and soft copies of study material, audio-visual program work and interactive counseling sessions. The total duration of MA course is two years. The medium of this program is English.

IGNOU MA in Migration and Diaspora: Course Fee, Eligibility Criteria

The minimum duration of this course is 2 years while the maximum is 4 years. Candidates applying for Master of Arts in Migration and Diaspora program must have a degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

The fee structure for this MA course is Rs 12,000 (Rs 6,000 per annum plus registration fee or development fee as applicable). The study material will also be provided in both print and digital. The expected number of students to be enrolled in this course is approximately 100 per cycle. The total credits for this course are 80 which break down to 40 credits in each semester.

The program comprises a total of 80 credits and is expected to open new employment opportunities for the candidates in Ministries of External and Foreign Affairs, United Nations (UN) organizations, diplomatic missions, civil societies and non-governmental organizations.

It will also provide an informed understanding of migration processes, development-migration matrix, role of diaspora in development, policy decisions, planning and research, and regulations related to issues of international migration and human trafficking. This course will be useful for professionals who are working in development sectors, UN bodies, cultural associations, foreign affairs, tourism and social entrepreneurs.
